Several Flights Delayed After Landing Lights Fail At Sea-Tac

I was just checking our flight online and it's already delayed 45 minutes. I though-how weird, it doesn't depart for 6 more hours? So then I saw the above headline-apparently landing lights weren't working at SeaTac and flights have been delayed all day.
Good times.

Can't stop

Seriously, I can't stop writing. This is just silly. I need to shut the laptop and go to bed.

To-Do List for Tomorrow oh no it IS tomorrow:

1. Laundry
2. Pack
3. Fly to Alaska

Picture

I needed my picture on here to put it on my profile.

Billy

My interest in Billy Corgan started in eighth grade, thanks to a girl I would rather not mention by name considering the state of our relationship (non-existent for a reason). I'll call her A. A played some songs for me after school one day, "Siamese Dream", "Disarm" , "Today" which all in fact rocked my world. A and I began an obsession (too strong a word? not really) with The Smashing Pumpkins and Billy in particular. Yes, we felt like we knew him and were on a first name basis with him. Around that time, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was released and my life changed.

You know the angst-ridden teenage years? I spent them listening to Billy, James, D'arcy, and Jimmy. Those hours I spent in my room every day when I wasn't babysitting or over at G's or N's house? Writing the lyrics to the songs in my journals. Yes, I was a silly teenage fan. But I can also say I was just a girl who felt moved by Billy's music and the way he seemed to know exactly how I was feeling.

A and I cried when we saw MTV news report that Jimmy had been kicked out of the band for his drug problems and Jonathan Melvoin, a keyboardist and percussionist that toured with the Pumpkins died from an apparent drug overdose. We got in trouble in 9th grade math class for spending more time copying the drawings in the MCAIN booklet pictures than solving x(2)-55(3x7)=y but we just didn't care. I don't really remember having any SP posters hanging in my room but maybe I'll ask my mom about that sometime. I do know I carried a picture of Billy in my wallet that I probably have packed away in a box in our garage right now. G, a close friend, even found a postcard with Billy on it and mailed it to me one summer, "from" him to me. I still have that too.

I can honestly say over the years there have been times where I wished my life could have a soundtrack, times where music could just start playing in the background appropriate for each situation. After all, there is a song for every situation, a song for every mood, and most importantly, a song by Billy that pulls at every heartstring I have. I can't wait to see him July 18th.

"For a 6-foot-3 guy with no hair and a whiny voice, I've done all right."-Billy Corgan

That's me in the box. . .

Jeezzzzzzzz this is intense. I'm watching a show on TLC called The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off, about a guy named Johnny Kennedy who suffers from dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. As the website www.debra.org describes; "Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disease characterized by the presence of extremely fragile skin and recurrent blister formation, resulting from minor mechanical friction or trauma. This condition is not contagious." This guy's skin FALLS OFF when he's bumped and he now has terminal skin cancer. He's hilarious though-just picked out his own coffin (kind of morbid in a way, I think) and he told the coffin designer that he wanted it to have the Heinz Beans label on it, to give the people at his funeral something to nudge each other and wonder about. He just asked where he should store it since he's not going to need it "immediately." Okay I think I'm done but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be bawling by the end of this.

Lady of Leisure

That's right, I'm done. My classroom contents are now in 55 boxes and I turned in my key for the summer. We are heading to Alaska on Thursday night and until then I will be reading, sleeping, and possibly doing some things around the house. Not too exciting but I am looking forward to it!

Alki

I've lived in the Seattle area for almost two years now and I'd never been to Alki beach until last night. We'd had a barbecue (housewarming party about three months late) and two friends were staying late. We all got talking about how we'd never been to the "famous" Alki beach before so we jumped in the car and alas-we were off. Let me just tell you; Alki is an interesting place. Being the smarties we are, we stopped at the first parking spot we saw, not knowing the real "beach" part wasn't for a few miles more. Yeah so we walked. A lot. Saw some interesting people. Like the Pimp for example, with his bright orange shirt and obnoxious straw hat??? Who does he think he's going to impress with that? We also saw gobs and gobs of teenagers, you know, the real loud kind? It made us all feel old. So we went back to the quieter spot and took pictures of the sunset. On our walk back to the car, we had the most enjoyable experience of watching one of the said teenagers skateboard up to the short concrete wall and then jump INTO the water. See, not all kids are hoodlums. It was a delightful evening.
